A Brief Biography of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Lived: 1929-1968
Martin Luther King, Jr. was a leader of the Civil Rights Movement, as he was a major advocate for the rights of African-American people. To achieve his goals of equality for all people, King used non-violent methods, inspired by the non-violent protests of Gandhi. Examples of King's non-violent protests included organized boycotts, marches, and speeches, such as the famous Montgomery Bus Boycott, and the
"I Have a Dream" Speech. King was successful in achieving more rights for African-Americans, through his stand against segregation, discrimination and racism. To commemorate King's work, we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
